I saw this on Buzzfeed and I though to myself, wasn’t Donna Summer a huge international celebrity when this song came out? Shouldn’t an artist of her stature have been able to find a real lead dancer for her music video instead of a waiter from the Bennigans down the street from the studio? UPS94QATWU5G – I recently got an email from Generator Land user who had discovered a generator another user had made that basically advocated violence against women. All the email contained was a link to the generator and the words “Do the right thing.” We exchanged a few emails to confirm we were on the same page and I deleted the generator in question.
To be honest, I didn’t feel great about it. The generator was heinous, vulgar and horribly misguided but I don’t take the deletion of user generators lightly. We believe in freedom and creativity at Generator Land and we don’t want to get into the business of telling users what is immoral or objectionable.
I love words. That’s the reason we built Generator Land. I love to see words come together in unexpected and new ways to create funny, useful or strange things. That’s really what the site is about. The glory of words. But when words are used to sow hatred we have to step in.
If you’re a user of the site please understand we want to leave you alone to create and experiment to your heart’s content. We don’t want to mess with your stuff. We just ask that if you want to push the envelope of what even tolerant people are willing to accept as OK you take a moment to think before you post.
